Adélie Penguin on Iceberg
The Adélie penguin in the photograph appeared to be stuck about 25 feet above the ocean with no way to get down; it had climbed onto the iceberg on the other side, where the slope was much more gentle than what is visible here. From our Zodiac, we watched for half an hour as the penguin scurried back and forth on the ledge, periodically peering over and appearing completely perplexed. Finally, a second Adélie called from the other side of the iceberg and the penguin scurried off the way it came.
